TB Leak??

Hey, so my buddy and I were attempting to do a boost leak test, we built the device but the pump we use wasnt pushing out a lot of air.

Even though little amount of air was getting pushed, we did hear a huge hiss. However, It wasnt in the pipes, it was coming from the throttle body. Ive heard that gasket leaks. I dunno if thats the same location. I decided to take a pic with my iPhone and post it so you guys can see where im talking about.

In the pic, it was right around where the black thing is and the coily piece is. There was a huge hiss coming from there.

What to do about that?

while you hear the noise move the "black thing" back and forth and the "hiss" will change pitch........if so its your tb shaft seals.

pm milspec, order new ones and install - there is a great how-to on this forum.

its very common.......

as far as improvements - whatever drive-ability issues that the boost leak might be causing you will be fixed, or once its fixed will open the door to more boost leaks...its a viscous cycle.

to do it proper you need something that will push a decent volume of air, i recommend fixing the shaft seals and then finding a better compressor to do the follow up test.

Yep def your shaft seals. listen to travman and get the MIL.SPECs. They are better than the Works IMO

Aby, my TB shaft seal on the TPS side was in two pieces. I just replaced them both with MIL.SPEC. Great product. Thank you

what kind of compressor do you guys use for this test, i'm guessing one that holds a psi at a certain level?
