2.2L or 2.3L or 2.4L?
Hey pepz,
Due to a balance shaft bearing bouncing around in my engine I'm starting an engine rebuild and need some advice.
My current mods are as follows:
HKS 272's
Intercooler piping
Full Exhaust
Aquamist HFS-6
My plan is to go with a new turbo (still undecided on the turbo) but I figured my engine setup would dictate my turbo choice to some degree. My goal is to spool quickly and make as much power as quick as possible. I'm more of a road racer not so much drag racer.
so my question is, what would you choose? 2.2, 2.3, or 2.4? Why? And how would that choice impact my turbo choice?
Thanks in advance

i would get a 2.3 stroker with a BBK Full boost is VIOLENT lol and holds to 8100rpm at 27psi. which is perfect for an e85 car in my opinion 91 with meth would be a potent combo too. thats wat im doing to my time attack car anyway lol

I know you want power but what kind of hp goals are you after? Are you set on a stroker?
I have an fp green on 91 octane and the spool is amazing but I do wish I had more power. But response and pickup is so fantastic and so driveable!! But 91 blows so if you have E85 stations fairly close go with that no question. You don't need to mess with the engine to get what you want on E85.
But if you're set on 91...I've heard really great things about a 3076 turbo on a 2.3l. Not sure why that combo works well but I suspect the 2.3 gives you the added power down low that eases the wait-for-it turbo lag of a larger turbo. So you have decent torque right away and then the big power a few seconds later.

So NO e85 here, it should be a crime with Seattle being as big as it is. But the engine is coming out of the car and I figured... since its out... you know?

I like the 2.2 because you can rev higher. I would also go with a FP HTA 3076R. They put down 483WHP and 370WTQ on pump with a 2.0. You could put down 500+WHP and 450+WTQ to 9000 RPM's and that turbo will hold boost till you shift!

I would go 2.2 if you want to rev it harder, and Full Race twin scroll 35R for power.
Your budget will also sort of dictate what setup you get. Have you narrowed it down to a turbo yet?

My goals? Well I like to go fast really though I want something I can take to the track but also needs to be usable as a daily driver, And I'm a pretty "spirited" driver. I want a low spool up w/lots of power. I'm not sure what else to address but I think that sums it up.

My budget... well I picked up a second engine to put in the car so I'm not in a hurry. But aside from that I would say money isn't really an issue (although I don't feel like paying for a brand name so much) I don't plan on putting any of this on a credit card so it is limited to what I bring home bi-weekly, but again I'm not really in hurry.
I haven't picked a turbo but I was thinking HTA Green, Red or BBK Full (since one of my goals is the lowest spool possible while generating good power) Thoughts on that?
