plenty of people have made over 600hp on a stock bottom end.not recomended but it can be done and hold for a while.

That's funny. ^

Really, don't even bother changing anything if you're going to re-use the stock pistons. Like Mike said, doesn't matter what they look like. In fact, you can pretty much bet they are crap. Stock pistons with 95k mi...

correct, but not all cars are the same, as well as what they are used for. i do alot of racing at the drag strip and i made it through one summer at 450 with a fpgreen and blew a hole in the block, the op also has 95k on the car and is on a budget . im sure that means he doesnt want to spend 5k anytime soon. waiting and spending 500 on pistons is worth it rather than just putting in rods. i say if your going to build the motor, do it correctly the first time around. even reusing the pistons you will have to hone the block and put new rings in because you will be taking everyting apart. if you dont im sure the rings wont be able to seat again and will score the walls and also burn oil.

I will go out on a limb and say EVERY SINGLE True 600hp stock block car is a 3rd gear dyno pull queen.. NONE of the TRUE 600hp stock block cars race their car and pull all 4 gears on the street or track and live for long at all.. if there are any that live thru racing abuse at 600+ hp its .0001% that were built on a wednesday..

Until you measure out the bores you won't even know if the stock size piston can still be used, if it needs to be bored to get a good starting point you have to buy bigger ones anyways

I think you made a good choice 4banger... After you hone and measure and after 95K miles I would be amazed if it didn't need to be bored some, so looking to buy pistons and rods make sense. You'd be amazed at how much shops on here do know, considering they do this for a living. Just my .02 GL
