03 evo 8 almost 78000 with tons of launches good and bad. I have done lots of down shifting. I feel that the synchro's are getting tired but besides that its all good. I have a t-case with a rs diff just waiting for the old one to give out but not yet...

I made it 71k miles but the tranny was pretty damn F'd up (needed every gear replaced along with synchros, etc). I autocrossed it for a season and a half with a few track days. Original owner did who knows what in the first 30k miles. My friend that tuned me assumed it was a drag car based on the tune on it. I want to add an LSD with Shep service.

03 open diff lasted 5yrs under extreme conditions with no headaches.
That's nice of Mitsubishi. Replacing parts after extreme abuse, I wonder why they have such a bad reputation.

Hello Everyone,

First post here. My question is this: I am looking at getting a Evo, yet I am concerned with the reliability of the drivetrain. I plan to DD the car and while I may drive it hard now and again I don't plant on launching very often at all. When upgrades and modding are concerned, I plan to do a bit, but keep it stock turbo for a while.

That being said. What model do you think would be best to get? Are there really any differences from a Evo 8 GSR to a EVo 9 GSR? Reliability wise that is.

Also, I see that this Shep fellow rebuilds and reinforces Transfer-cases. Hypothetically, I buy a 100% working and well taken care of evo. Can I as a precautionary measure get shep to reinforce it so it will never brake (unless my brain melts out my ears)? How much would that run? Is that a stage 1 or 2 on his website? What options for the stages would I want?

Thanks for any help!

-Spencer

First off, don't hijack a thread. Secondly use the search function at the top of the page.
