Cost to tune an EVO-VIII

Question Cost to tune an EVO-VIII

Hello. I do not currently own a Mitsubishi Evo, however, I am curious as to the overall costs associated with building a 700-800whp Evo-VIII. I assume that without the use of nitrous, it could cost approximately 20,000-30,000 dollars not including installation. Is this a realistic cost estimation? What would the general cost to build such a car be? All answers will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you want 700-800 HP out of an evo 8 you are going to be spending way more than $30,000

a stock 2003 evo 8 is about 16,000 by itself

if the labor is being done by someone else, itll be a couple grand for that too

a stroker kits about 3 grand minus block work,

head work is about 2 grand

transfer case that will work more than once is about 3 grand

trans is about 2-4 grand

thats not even half of what youll need

add in the turbo and motor parts plus stand alone plus tuning and dyno time plus supporting mods lol thats another couple grand haha

In response to italianevo8, I would like to clarify that the 20-30k estimate does not include the car itself. I just assumed that a turbo kit costs 5-7k, a built motor costs 15k, a transmission costs 5k and extras such as suspension/labor might cost 5k+. I dont mean to intrude on the personal finances of evo owners, but I could not find any other thread asking this question.

oh in the event of not including the car i think youd be in the ball park, whats making you want a 700 HP evo since you dont own one yet, just wondering

buschur motor = 3K, TRE tranny, = $1500, suspension $1000, BIG turbo $1300-1700, manifold $1000, Turbo back exhaust $1000, intercooler + piping $ 800, AEM $1700,

around 10K gets you the parts, 30K is crazy

We have done the build for around 25k or so depending on options. That was closer to 700 than 800, but it comes down to what fuel you want to run, is it a daily driven car or racecar only. PM for more details if you need to but you are right in the ball park. Its not any harder to build a 700whp Evo than a 500whp it just takes more maintenance to keep it running at that level constantly.

There are alot of prices flying around in here, but since we have done it I am pretty confident I can tell you what to expect.

not to mention that your car will be no fun drive and dangerous since you have no experience. You will probably kill you and also someone else trying to manhandle that kind of power right of the bat

See the thing is... no because when you actually do the project you encounter 500 more things that need modding its not just the motor and trans, at 700HP your driveline will be disinigrated if its stock.

Plus labor-it costs 500+ to replace a clutch, how much do you think it is when you replace 70% of the car

You can build a 700-800whp Evo for under 30K without counting the cost of the car.

You do NOT need a standalone to achieve these power outputs either. It can be done on the factory ECU with a skilled tuner. I happen to know one.
