Downpipe rub: Get tie rod spacers or kart boy hangers?

So here is the situation.

I have an '05 Evo VIII that has the ACD. Car is mostly stock for an evo... Stock turbo setup with a full turbo-back exhaust. The downpipe is a Megan 3'dp (acd version) connected to a 3'' Megan test pipe and then goes to a Helix catback. The whole exhaust system has been on the car for about 2 years, and I have not had any problems with rubbing or noise until about 3 months ago. The downpipe started slightly rubbing only after getting off the highway. And then after a 1500 mile road trip, the downpipe now rubs every time I start off from a stop light. I am wondering why all of a sudden I am having an issue.

So I figure I have two options:

(1) Get tie bar spacers (which I assume the dp is rubbing on this).
I have searched and didnt find anything except for a very overprice buschur racing tiebar kit. What is the cheap solution when going this route?

(2) Kartboy hangers. How many hangers does the car have? 3, 4 , or 5? I can't remember. Does this really make a difference?

So what are your recommendations?

Thanks for the fast response!

Yea, if you have a moment, let me know how many there are so I can place my order. I noticed that Kartboy's site is only about Subaru. Are these hangers universal?

No they are not. My neighbor has an STI and his exhaust was rubbing/hitting his rear diff and he asked me to use one of my extras ( you get one extra if you have an after market exhaust, and it did not fit.

Let me find you a link for the Evo specific ones. I don't recall having to know how many there was.

Here is where I ordered mine from. The kit only comes as a five piece.

Thats what I needed to see. Well maybe I'll take a shot in the dark on this one, hopefully this will solve my issue.

Still... I am wondering why all of a sudden this has become a problem.

Do you think over time... the exhaust bolts could back out causing the exhaust to sag a little bit? I dunno lol

I had the same issue. Im guessing your megan dp has the flex section in it..The flex section weakens and starts to hang on the tie bars. Honestly i took my tie bars off and felt no difference in the handling.

go to home depot and get some 3/8 square washers that are about 1/4" thick. You can usually find them in the electrical department in the hardware for Unistrut. It worked perfect for me. It drops it just enough where there is no rubbing.

Or do what every other person I have ever seen did. Put a pry bar in there and slightly bend the bar down. No more rub FTW.

AHHHHHH whatever those flimsy cheap bars don't do much in the way of chassis ridgidity anyway putting a slight bend in it so you DP will clear will not have an ill affect on anything. Heck taking the damn things off all together you wont notice any difference

I put some washers in mine to clear the ETS DP

Get 3 longer bolts and place a nut as a spacer beween the tie bar and the chasis. As you can see in the pic it leaves enough clearance for the aftermarket downpipe and is a verry cheap and effective solution to your problem.

I also used washers on those tie bars, and it clears fine with my Megan Racing downpipe. This is on an Evo IX.
