New Turbo, To Cam or Not to Cam? - That is the question

I'm going with a BBK Full kit.

Should I get new cams or use the stock cams? Why?

Do you have the money? Do what doesn't break the wallet (read: you can afford it), in my opinion.

Another thing to consider: Why don't you buy the cams, let them sit, and when you go stroker or built block, throw them in then? That will save some money in the long run!

I would either do the cams first and both at the same time if you have the funds to do that.

I'd do cams first then.... Shop around and see what Turbo would be good with your set up! I have Kelfords and I'm thinking of going with the same setup.... BBK Full....

I guess I need to look at some charts to see what sort of gains people are getting with the BBK on stock and aftermarket cams.

Cams are a great bang for buck. On my old Evo, I gained 65whp (236whp and jumped to 301whp at CBRD) by adding a test pipe, LICP, FMIC and Works 269 cams. I'll attribute maybe 20-25whp to the LICP, FMIC and test pipe. Upgrading the cams is one of the best things you can do to improve power!

I definatly recommend cams along with the BBK. The BBK alone with stock cams still won't dissapoint.

You have a IX. Do the turbo, skip the cams for now.

I honestly have to disagree...

if you are doing an aggressive cam (on a IX) with valve springs etc.. then they work well... but your talking springs, install, cams, etc... or a turbo which will generally net 30-80whp depending on the turbo if its stock housing...

evo 8's respond great to cams, the ix not AS much... a good stock housing turbo will net you big gains...

just my opinion..

wrong.

in an 8 this is true

not with a 9

as CBRD said, ix's don't respond as well to mild cams
