Royal Purple uses a different chemistry than most oils. They are one of only a handful of marketers using Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly) in their oil. Moly is a solid material, which is specifically banned by Cummins®, due to excessive valve train wear.
HP gains doesn't always mean it's the best. If I was looking into motor oil, I would look into protection and lubrication properties rather then HP gains because I would like to have my engine running instead of clogged.

a friend of mine switched from mobil 1 to royal purple in his 06 mr and he loves the stuff, I'm not sure his whp but his car is far from stock and he's had better performance from it since the switch.....I know another person with a built Acura RSX Type S thats turbo'd who runs amsoil and only changes oil twice a year, last time they pulled his motor apart everything looked fantastic....

when pepople say i love this that oil i just crack up ! it doesnt mean your engine is liking it one bit.
Look at the testing done, like Volatility test, four ball wear test "this test will tell you how your bearings, rings, crank and cams will wear.

I have seen many times engines being pulled apart small and big runing all types of oils and i can tell you what that you can see the difference in the engines that full synthetics were used, Like that Acura RSX you have mentionned.

people dont get it high quality oils pay off, but i tell you what your engine internals, tranny those components are getting it they will pay you off in a bad way in the end you may not notice it one year from now but you will several years down the road when yoju need new syncros and sleves and bearings because of junk oil or cocktail oil mixes like a lot of them do

JUST MY 4 Cents

I've almost always used Mobile1 (I've used Quaker State Q Horsepower a few times) and have never had any oil consumption issues. I've got an 03' with 64k on the clock.

EDIT: fail, 200 people beat me to it

I just switched to Castrol also... 10w-40. I used Syntec back when it first came out on another car, no complaints no smoke or oil usage...

I never had any oil usage with the 10w-30 mobil one actually, but with the built motor now I was starting to use some.

It is, isn't it. It's mainly up to the manufactures on how they want to produce synthetic and what preservatives they want to add. It's just the way I see oil.

i used Mobil 1 for both my cars since day 1. recently tried the 0w30 Castrol Syntec on my GTI and would have to say im impressed. No oil burning and the car feels more smooth and faster. I will try it out in the EVO next. I heard 0w30 is the European formula thats better then the rest and its actually made in Germany.. Is it ok to run 0w30 in the EVO?

I had a 92 integra that I ran Mobil1 in since I owned it with 45k miles. I gave it to my brother at 350k with the original engine. He drove it until 440k before overheating the engine and warping the block. Only Mobil1 since we owned it.

My Evo has only had Mobil1 since day 1, and it is clocking 143k. It is a daily driver that sees 23 psi and 7000 rpms daily. Still on stock original turbo too. Checked the turbo a couple months ago, and no shaft play. I'm sticking to what works for me.

M1 EP mostly. 120k of hard *** miles and it's all thats ever went in the car. No consumption. I'll stick with what works until the bottom end is built then I'll use the builders recommended oil.

M1 must be doing something right cause for 120k I have not been easy on the car.

Little OT but the fluids that have got me 120k hard *** miles. Stock block, Stock tranny, Stock TC.

Engine: M1 EP mostly sometimes the regular (No Zmax, Restore 4,or any additives ever)
Tranny: Penszoil Syncromesh
TC: Diaqueen
Rear Diff: Diaqueen

My 2 cents
