Since you can't trust knock with aem or much with the stock ecu, what's your preferred way of monitoring knock?

who said you cant trust it with aem? its not the same for aem and stock ecu when monitoring voltage.

This I know. AEM is soley user settings which you should generate when the car is at a level where you know it's not knocking, and then use it as a reference while increasing boost.

But that's off topic. I assumed he meant he doesn't rely on AEM knock settings either since he said he observed a log where knock matched the powerband of the car. And I know he doesn't give much thought to the stock ecu knock warnings either, so I was wondering what his preferred method of monitoring knock is.

I dont think Aaron does AEM tho at ER, Lucas does. I'll let Aaron respond back to you tho.

Aaron did test the car with detonation cans to confirm it was not knocking and stuff, he is definitely very careful when he was tuning it on 91oct from what Ive read.

We spoke more on the knock sensor in the other thread he has in the Dyno Section!

I am now logging knock voltage on all cars due to that thread, so yes it does have its advantages in knowing the voltage on stock ecu! Theres a threshold that has to be surpassed for voltage/knockbase to register as actual knocksum, so it certainly has advantages of knowing voltage.

Yea I read that thread too lol

And det cans makes sense.. I was just wondering, I know he knows it's not knocking I just wanted to know how he knows.

he knows because of det cans & was on the dyno so he can pretty much see what the car wants based on curves he gets and how it is reacting to the timing he gave it etc.

i imagine you would tune it similar to e85 and keep a close eye on power gains rather then knock counts, once it stops making power back it off and find a comfortable zone.

what i gathered from his stuff, was he was more concerned about the afr more then anything at this power level on 91oct. not sure if his car has egt or not.

My preferred method is to trust the knock sensor and knock count. I know there are times where it doesnt want to track so I have to get creative. I only push my own stuff this hard to be able to learn what is going on. I think in this case my issue is based on valvetrain noise and the exhaust dump since it doesnt do this on the street.

Like Tom pointed out, racegas and detcans go a long way to making sure I know whats happening one way or another. Almost all my experience of what is safe and not safe is based on a completely stock motor running high boost so I compare logs from the 574 stuff to the 648, compare the timing, test, etc. I do not tune by EGT, I have never found it to be useful in anything other than a diesel.

I will be testing some new cams shortly to make sure we have even more options. Nearest update I can think of other than I put it back on E85 since I think 720whp is more fun daily than 648....that and my Dad was *****ing the car didnt feel as much fun. He drives it more than I do right now so I am all about keeping him happy

Sounds like you've got something planned down there. New cams + T4 TS = epic build?

Wondering if you warned your Father or not before letting him go wot hehe..
