thick oil in overflow tank(HELP)

ok so im buying this evo for 13k yes i said 13k but going over the car i noticed this verry thick oily substance inside the overflow resevoir.. its mainly gumming up on the plastic tube.. any idea what the problem could be.. im thinking possibe head gasket but the car has a t3/t4 turbo kit on it.. is there any way that the kit could be causing this...

I would check the compression.. Any smoke coming out of the muffler when you start it up? Smell the smoke if there is. See if it has a sweet syrup smell. Check the oil see if there is any coolant mixed in there could be headgasket and or bad valve seals.

True. Just rip the head off and replace the gasket and valve seals. Can't hurt.

Yeah just as long as the compression checks out I think that's a really good deal. Did you get a chance to look at the oil cap?

Nice thats a good sign. My brother and I put in a used ej20g motor in his subi and he found a similar problem. Oil was mixing in the coolant but not vice versa. Changed the headgasket and it seem to still be there. Ended up being a cracked turbo mixing the fluids so that wasn't a bad fix at all. Just was a ***** having to flush the coolant system since it looked like chocolate milk shake in the engine coolant passageways.

If it is a head gasket, then connect your compression gauge hose up and take the gauge off and take out the schrader valve so you have just a hose there. Disconnect all the plugs and have someone slowly crank the car (SHOULD NOT START!). Hold your finger over the hose and when a gust of air is felt you will be at Top Dead Center on the Compression Stoke (Valves Closed and Piston at the top of the cylinder). Grab an Air Hose and blow air into the cylinder. The air should compress and not blow out anywhere. If the air does just blows through and no pressure is built you on not on TDC on the Compression Stroke. When you think the air is compressing look for the bubbles building in your over flow bottle. Do this for all 4 cylinders and if bubbles do appear then replace your head gasket. If not then do your visual inspections of the turbo and look for obvious cracks and such. The turbo should be relatively easy to take out and inspect. Good luck.
