EVO 8 Stock Internals

Sup guys...This is my first Mitsu, I was all about Honda before. I loved the EVO from the day it was available in the USDM. But I turned away from it because of Mitsu. history in reliability. I always saw the Mitsu. Gal. and Dia. on the road with bad valves seals? ...(blue smoke from the tail pipe).

Anyway, I don't trust my car yet...so I don't really push it like my Hondas. I was researching the stock internals for the VIII and didn't find much, except a PDF on the complete design of the car (mostly info on aerodynamic design).

Do the VIIIs come with forged internals...heard it only had forged connecting rods? and how is the reliability on it? how hard can you push it?

I don't have much mods; injen upper, lower intercooler piping, injen intake, forge BOV and boost controller, fujiso turbo back exhaust, and a street tune for 19-20 psi.

and how come i dont have the intercooler spray switch? which models come with it?

thanks!

Wow, move to newb forum please. Still, I won't be a dick:

03-04 had ICS on it, 05+ do not.
Stock internals are good to about 420whp on dyno dynamics or mustang, and 500whp on dynojet. VIII's shoot for about 22-23psi peak, IX's shoot for 24psi peak on a basic pump gas tune. Yes valve seals can go bad, depends on the car/tune/oil/other conditions.

I have heard of 500whp evo VIII's on a stock bottom end.

I think 04 was the last year for the IC sprayer.

Yup, you can run a lot of power on a stock evo with a good tune. It turns into a grenade after a certain point though, so it's better to have that safety net.

At least put in ARP rod bolts and head studs if you plan on keeping the stock internals. That will save you some headache

Cheap insurance $140 for both and the rod bolts are one of the main weak points.

I made 549whp on a Dyno JEt all stock internally and the head was never off the block. It was on Sunoco gt 260 100 octane unleaded. 32 psi on a 35R frame turbo. I ran the car like that for almost 2 years before I decided it was worth to build the motor.

Id be alot more worried about "pushing" an all aluminium open deck motor then an cast iron closed deck block. Ive had several freinds pop headgaskets around 400 whp on "built" b series on pump gas.

Also whats worse burning excessive oil from worn rings like most high mileage Hondas do or seeping valve stem seal that only happen usually when cold?

DSMs and alot of Mitsu cars have robust engines but a lil weak in the drivetrain. I would say the Evo is exempt from this statement considering im still running the stock TCase and trans in my car to this day.

I have a 03 with about 46k and its been driven hard since day one of me owning it around 18k miles. I run 30 psi with meth on stock internals but I have done head bolts but thats it. Still stock tranny and tcase. Its good to build the motor though added insurance and a lot more fun in the end. I plan to build mine hopefully this winter. This after 4-5 years of me owning the car.
