you could also have the 2nd ring on upside down. It acts as scrapper to push oil up on top of the piston instead of scraping it down back into the pan where it belongs

I've seen what I call an unusual amount (to me) of oil comsumption. I have no visible burning oil from the exhaust. However I do smell some burn when I let off the gas and have the car in the area where the pvc is working. That is the only sign. I went through 1.6 qt. between Reno and Oxnard Ca.
Anyone have suggestions. My engine and head are rebuilt. 2.3 with mild head kelford 272 on bbk full.
