I posted this ? on another forum but will add it here as i'd like to know if/when they/anyone will be coming out w/ specific re-designs of the of say cnc'd turbine wheels???

I misread it the first time. Turbine wheels arent CNC's, theyre made from cast Inconel. Inconel is very tough to work with, and would destroy tooling very quickly.

Why would anyone CNC a turbine wheel? That's gotta be insanely expensive. A chunk of inconel can't be cheap. Then machining it out? There would probably be a ton of tool wear.

I beleive they do produce CNC machined turbine during developmental work to verify aero performance.

I think they just run a small batch of castings. Make a green mold or whatever a temporary, one-use mold is called to make the castings. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than paying for the full-on tooling.

I do imagine the compressor wheels are just CNC machined for prototypes before developing castings. Aluminum is cheap and easy to machine.

Don't know for sure, I'm pretty sure I've seen Grocmax on here say he's seen billet inconel turbines.
