Year old thread, fyi.

This is debatable, but I'll have to say no, it's not necessary. The clamp load increase does have the potential to distort the housings. But my bearing clearance and endplay remained the same when I switched from bolts to studs.

You don't have to run oversize bearings when you align hone a block. They cut the caps first, making them shorter, so you end up with the same size hole. It's not like machining a crank.

As long as your measure your clearances properly, you will not have any problems.

I searched a lot and couldn't find any specific thread with all the concerns.

Tomorrow I'll clean the block and torque the main girdle and the torque plate, both with studs. I'll check the main bores for any distotion with a dial gauge. Next, I'll assemble the crank with bearings and check misalignment with plastigage.

Measured it today. Main bores horizontal axis is smaller by 0,02mm, or 0,0008". Plastigage showed 0,04mm clearance on vertical axis.

Dunno if I'm align boring it. I'll do the cyl bores and then check all again.

How vital are ARP main studs? I purchased a set but the machine work was done without keeping this in mind. So I decided to just stick with the stock mains.
