driving untuned on cams?

so i plan on installing a set of kelford 272 cams in my garage soon...

but of course the closest place to get tuned would be either in Illinois near chicago or MAP in minnesota which is like 3-4hour drive...

is it ok to drive without a tune until i get a tune (not going any higher that 4k rpm and no boost at all of course)...

i do have a tactrix cable with ecuflash and evoscan...that i could adjust some basic settings on my tune...what would you guys recommend changing in ecuflash in order to make driving a little bit better than being untuned?

Driving untuned at part throttle is fine. With the ECU in closed loop operation, it will simply adjust the fuel mixture to 14.7. No problems there.

Just try to keep your foot out of it until you can get a good tune.

or you can ask for someone's tuned ROM with similar mods...might work out a little better until you can actually get it tuned.

HEy, i have the same cams.. u must advance the timing in the 0-20 load cells and down to 1000rpms(for idle), i dont have my rom with me, but i want to say 9* instead of the 5* it is stock... when u start ur car for the first time its gonna cough like crazy with 5* and u'll see wat i mean, so try 9* to start out with and she'll idle decently.. kelfords dont idle too well, so ur wideband(if u have one) will jump around like a crack head lol, until u get pro tuned

Call your tuner and ask their advice. I feel that would be fine as long as you take it easy and do not rev too high.

+1. I drove around with aftermarket cams untuned for OVER 4000 miles. Id say closer to 5000. I was on the stock tune with JDM MIVEC and SLIGHTLY leaner AFR than stock (approx 0.5 leaner). I even went WOT and drove the car like normal and I was fine. I did logs with evoscan and never noticed anymore knock than when the car was stock. Hope that helps.

you will be fine BUT you are nor going to get the full benefits of the cams until the ecu recognizes it. So no worries just drive it and get it tuned, the car might idle a little weird and it might shut off but it will be fine..
