My EVO is Whining!!

I was driving my Evo 9 MR and I step on the gas couple of times that night. I missed 4th once and 5th twice. just after that my car started whining. I searched the net, and found couple of videos on youtube with the same whining sound as mine. They all say its the transfer case. I'm surprized actually.. my car is only 3 years old and just did 11k miles! I never autocrossed, never raced on a drag.. I never even launched it, not even once! could it really be the transfer case? and if it is, is there anything that could be done insead of getting it replaced?

Your TC is going out. You can drive it for awhile. I drove mine for almost one year but I don't DD mine. You can find a nice used TC in here or send it to Shep to get it upgrade. If your car is still under warranty, take it to Mitsubishi to get replaced. I paid a litte over $100 to get my car checked and got my TC warrantied due to I purchase it from the dealer plus it had that issue right after I got it. GL

So it couldn't be anything else? My warranty is over. How much will it cost to get a new one? How much will shep charge for fixing it? Thanks for the help.

the 9's have a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, thought it was 6 and not 10 years though

If you're the original owner, then your powertrain warranty is 10 yrs / 100k miles

Thanks for the replies guys.. I'd like to know what causes the transfer case to go out?? I also remember that night when I slightly touch the gas pedal on 6th gear just to keep the car at constant speed, I hear a loud sound as if something is rubbing.

If I'm going from 4th to 5th but I didnt get the gear into 5th.. as if it got into neutral, how does this cause the transfer case to go out? from what I heard, most transfer case issues arise from hard launches.

how does the car shift? you sure its not your trans? with 11k miles your t-case should not go out this early..check your acd reservoir and make sure there is fluid in there..

I'd feed it NOS if it could do the trick :P But seroiusly I want a clear answer what causes the transfer case to go out? and what would happen if you while shifting quickly, not get into a gear?

To be honost I cant tell the difference while driving. however, I noticed the shifter or (maybe the bushings) has a weird sound as I move it through gears. I also noticed while driving, the whining sound gets louder when I step on the clutch or when I keep it in neutral.
