NEW External Wastegate on Stock Turbo!

so as some of you may have seen my other thread where i made an ewg set up for my stock turbo by mounting a tial 38mm on a megan manifold with a Y pipe, that set up worked very nice excpet for i didnt take into account that i forgot to divorce the Y-pipe so my spool was terrible but i did hold boost like a champ...

now i ripped all that off and got cracking on another set up with was originally designed by revmoto and with his help i was able to make this new set up which keeps the twin scroll design fully intact and divorced so spool is next to stock... heres the process

here what is was before

so does it hold more consistent boost with this..arent there manifold that you can retain stock turbo with a external wastegate...

meatEVO your setup doesn't look to keep the wastegate port divided though, similar to his first setup.

Even if it does hold more boost, does it actually make any more power?

its holds 29psi to redline on my fpred, others drop to 27 or lower on a red. And the exhaust chambers are divided on the X turbo, and the flange keeps a tight seal, so i have no leakes. It might not of been the best way to do it, but it damn sure works great.

Yeah think I've got it right this time my spool is back to factory and I'm holding boost like a champ but since I've fixed a few leaks I'm now running very lean so going to be getting the tune tweaked a little and see why the power gains were from my last set up... I made 354 wheel before my old set up then went to te ewg setup and e85 and boosted me to 410 but spooling at 4300 so now with a way faster spool I should be making a bit more power now

i believe you are correct about his set up... meat evo did you divorce the pipe that connects from the hotside to your ewg? if nto then your spool is prob a little slower then most but you still hold boost like a chamo so its all good... if you divorce the entire pipe all the way to the ewg then your set up will be nasty!

Just because it holds a higher boost pressure doesn't mean it is making more power.

I'm very interested as I've been considering doing something similar but I really question if it will actually make any more power or just push the turbo so hard that exhaust back pressure skyrockets and the car makes no more power, or may even lose power.

There are definite shaft speed limits on turbochargers. You go beyond the critical shaft speed and all you do is increase stress on everything and make no more power.

good points you have but i cant see how having the same spool as a stock wastegate but holding way more boost till redline isnt gonna give any power gain theres def gotta be some power gains on the top end, but we will find out soon when i go for a retune
