Do you have a CEL with cat or not? survey
Some people have a CEL with their high flow cats and some do not. I know that an Evo with a test pipe and stock air/fuel will throw out flames from the tailpipe, what I am trying to find out is if we are burning up the cats due to unaltered mixtures? Are the flames from the backfires so much that they are hurting the catalyst in the converter to the point where they will no longer work, and are those who have leaned out the mixture either through SAFC, reflash, piggyback, ect. having the same problems? Will an OBD II cat such as Random Technologies or the Car-sound cat stand up to the stock A/F without burning up? If you respond please list the type of cat you are running along with if you have a CEL and if you have changed the air/fuel ratio?
Also, if your cat works where did you get it and how much so that people know where to go. Thanks, Joey
I have a 3" RnR o2 eliminator DP, 3" Catco cat, and 3" cat-back. CEL is on.

Well for one it does annoy me, I just bought the car two months ago and I really hate having the CEL on. Besides that it Texas it will not pass emissions. I just recieved an e-mail from Car-sound saying that their OBD II cat will get rid onf the CEL, but I would like to see if others have tryed it and it worked.

Your concern should be that your O2 is sending different signals to your ECU which is making your car run richer, hence the exhaust fire.
I had the same situation on my last car (Single turbo 2JZ in a Lexus), and the lack of a cat made the car run more rich, which was the result of the ECU trying to compensate for the signal it was now receiving from the straight pipe's O2. The resulting effect on your engine from this could be cylinder wash, which will eventually cause damage to your rings.
A check engine light in new cars is not like old cars, just an annoying warning. It actually means that your car is not running optimally (optimally even meaning optimal for the mods you have)and should be fixed.
