HELP!! Transmission Drain Plug fell out

So my less than mechanically inclined friend decide to change his own transmisison fluid. Appeared to do a fine job. Except for one important detail he forgot to tighten the drain plug to the tranny. He drove for about 50ish miles.

Was going down the highway and the **** hit the fan. The plug must have fallen out. He said he was going downt he highway and the car got difficult to shift and when he pushed in the clutch it made no real difference. He pulled over and attempted to put the car in neutral when he released the clutch all four wheels came to a screaching halt.

We called a tow truck and towed it. Now when it was pulled onto the tow truck it had to be dragged up the tow truck. When we got it to the shop the tow driver had to jerk the bed of the truck back and forth to get the car off. Pushing in the clutch and shifting the shifter made no difference.

Here's where it gets wierd. The shop couldn't get the car inside and my buddy wouldn't leave outside so he had it towed home. Once again the car had to be dragged onto the tow bed. We go the car home and when the driver lowered the bed into the garage. He tilted the bed back my buddy pushed in the clutch and the car all the sudden rolled fine and even shifted fine. Before you couldn't get it into any gear.

The car has a twin carbon clutch in it and mitsubishi front hellical diff. the car is not ACD if that helps at all.

Any thoughts guys?

sounds like transmission seized in gear, and chances are your transmission is gone.

when gears get hot enough the needle bearings can micro weld gear to shaft. sounds like more than one gear did this. then it broke free. tranny will be toast. the surface of gears will no longer be hard from the heat

tranny is done. the gears heated up and expanded seizing them...cooled off enough to allow them to unlock.

Figured the tranny was probably toast.
What about the front diff? It shares oil with the tranny but it sits pretty low think it's toast as well?
