CRITICAL! help me! problem with new turbo.

hey guys i havent contacted the seller yet but i know he is an honest guy, but maybe didnt look at the turbo closely. I bought a bbk full off of him and tore my car apart in the freezing cold today to realize that the wastegate actuator wont reach the hotside for some weird reason. i then realized that the wastegate has two holes like on an evo 8 turbo instead of the one hole like my fp red has with an evo 9 hotside. i am taking pictures now but i really hope i can figure something out. i need my money back

If he is honest like you say, I would suggest talking to him first. If he starts acting shifty and trys to screw you over then post here about how much of a swine he is

yeah i emailed him. i just dont think he ever checked when he bought it off the person he bought it from.

but as you can see the wastegate arm doesnt even reach where it should and im almost positive that is an evo 8 hotside and not a evo 9

Well if it's as easy as getting an evo9 hotside to fix the issue, that shouldn't be too pricey. I would definitely only buy turbos from reputable dealers though, because they are so finicky to begin with, you are taking a risk that probably isn't worth the money savings.

yeah i really do regret it. every time i buy something used i screw myself. i just want my money back and im going to spend the extra 700 for a friggen new one. im so sick of taking apart my car and then having to let it sit. i should have noticed right when i took it out of the box that the hotside is different(i think it is) but i am not an expert and i didnt realize until both of the wastegate actuators i have wouldnt fit.

The issue you are having is normal, The reason y it is not reaching is because the wga is preloaded (shortened). Btw if you change from a 8 hotside to a 9 that wont change the location of the wga or alignment.. All you need to do is put the section of the wga that attatchs to the flapper first. Once on use a ratch w/12mm socket and place 1 bolt threw the wga. Next put the socket w/ ratchet over the bolt and try slightly prying over the wga so that it lines up with the factory bolt holes on the turbo. THen easily screw them in with the ratched as you press down and your done.

Becareful though, if you try screwing in the bolt and its crooked, you wil strip the hole..
Ive done this many of times and never had 1 issue.

If you look along the edge of the hotside that attacts to the exhaust manifold, you will see a serial number stating 10.5T (If its the correct evo 8 10.5t hotside)

The difference is the Dual Flapper and single flapper between them. As long as it is a 10.5 hotside you will be fine, and yes you can have a evo 9 compressor wheel with a (05) evo 8 10.5 hotside.

i think it has the 10.5 hotside but its hard to read the numbers. i think the hotside is on wrong though so i am going to try and straighten it out. is there a way to measure them? this is bugging me out because i got the actuator to fit but the spring is completely out so it wont open when i hit full boost.
