I will be doing the works short throw just like itsurmicah did. My friend has a short throw in his VIII, not sure exactly which one he has. But he just got the short shifter, and he using the stock bushings and all that and his feels so much more crisp then my IX. Do it buddy. You will be much more pleased.

I bought the TWM short throw shifter and shifter base bushings. The underhood cable bushings were from corsportusa.com. I love the short throw shifter. If you install it wrong then you'll get a crappy short throw shifter.

I road race and would recommend the stock shifter. I have aluminum under hood bushings and use Redline MT-90 fluid. Shifts like a dream.. Harder motor mounts will also greatly increase shifting smoothness

Wouldnt recommend any of the cheapies ones. They might look the same, but the metal they use to make the cheap ones wont be of high quality. Won't make a difference until you snap a shifter in half, which the honda guys will tell you can and does happen. I left my stock shifter alone.

awesome feedback here guys. Anyone know of a kit that replaces the entire shifting unit (all the white plastic) and not just the shifter? I had a revo like that on my RSX and it was incredible. Thanks for all the opionions!

yea and after considering it, it sounds so amazing oooh I could shorten my throw, but you only lose like a 1/4 inch worth of movement and have to put in roughly .08% more effort to get a stock shifter into gear versus a short shifter. If we were working with a shifter from a peterbilt, I could see it making sense to do a short shifter...but really

there are a few ways to do this but most require a dogbox

Ikeya makes a mechanical conversion but I hear bad things and that there are very difficult to set up.
(I think the bad things I hear are from people not setting them up right but honestly I dont know?)

SQS SecShift is probably the coolest shifter ever made for an evo but it does require a dog box or full sequential.

There are about 5 others that I can think of but they all eliminate the H-Gate pattern and go to a "Sequential" style shifting. And they all cost alot. They all require a dog box of sorts

I would definitely buy a complete replacement shifter, possible a business idea anyone? haha

I've also seen people cut their shifters. This is a horrible idea, that is not what a short throw shifter is.

The intent is not so much to make the shifter shorter but to move the fulcrum point of the pivot on the shift lever itself, this reduces the amount of movement vs. shifter cable actuation required to completely change gears

Not a big fan of the short shifter in the evo. puts undue stress on the tranny. I had a Kartboy with underhood/base bushings replaced (Buschur) and it shifted like crap. I took out the short shifter and left bushings in and everything was crisp and ease of shifting returned, but without all the play. I would recommend bushings first, then if you feel it necessary, then move on to a short shifter as well. If you don't need the absolute short throw, like 95% of the evo nation, just stick with the bushings and I gaurantee you'll feel a difference

Installing Underhood Bushings, Shifter Base Bushings, pulls most of the slop out on a stock shifter setup.
Then I'd recommend just a tad little more weight according to your religious beliefs.

i have tried both B&M and Perrin adjustable and overall it made every shift alot smoother, quicker, and crispier HOWEVER going into 2nd gear was always stiff expecialy during initial movments. it would take approx 5-10 miles (for me!) to be able to get into 2nd gear like butter.

3rd was always somewhat notchy with the stock shifter but it diff went away when i throw the shorties.

question for those who have tried anything other than the b&m or perrin, do u guys experience shifting into 2nd gear tougher sometimes? especialy when the tranny is still cold?
Thanks

ps. i have the engine mount, underhood and shifter bushings installed!
