hks 272 camshafts questions
I know i know... look it up right? well i did.. Still dont understand.
I bought these cams because i was told it was the best... well my car is not a daily driver... but i dont take it too the track also.
So people are saying the 272's are bad at idle but with a right tune it would be fine...
I know with camshafts you need a tune/reflash but what do you need... a walbro fuel pump and boost gauge... a air/fuel gauge? Is the air/fuel gauge really necessary?
the real question i would like to know is since i bought the hks 272's does that mean IF i wanted to get cam gears i would HAVE to get the HKS Cam Gears Set? Or can i get something else like the AEM 5 Bolt Cam Gears or GReddy EVO 4G63 Cam Gears Set?? Does it have to be HKS now..?
Please Help.
Im sorry for bringing this topic up again...I understand people get annoyed.

No you do not need the cam gears to be HKS, you dont really need cam gears either way. They can do the right tuning when they reflash your ecu. You will need a walbro since you have an EVO VIII, if you had a IX you would of been ok. It is up to you to run the A/F gauge.

I have the hks 272s they just make u need to bump the idle up a bit higher to make up for the low vaccum, heres a video of my idle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orhWHHuIY-4
HKS cams are one of the best all around 272 no low end loss decent top end.
I would say theres no point to cams unless u have a walbro pump. Also first 2 things i bought when I got my evo were a boost gauge and LC-1 wideband a/f.
yes u can use other cam gears
personally I went in this order:
full 3in exhaust (downpipe and catless)
walbro 255lph pump
injen intercooler piping with intake and FMIC
272 cams
tublar manifold and 02 housing
hallman MBC and adjusted wastegate
not to be rude but I rec some reading before u dive in

you can use any camgear set you'd like and as far as the fuel pump goes you would be better off with a walbro but it all depends on your other mods as well, what else is done to your car

i have them aswell and i used my stock gears, however if you want to rev over 8500 safely i would upgrade springs and retainers, also a wb will make the tuning alot simpler it should be one of first things you buy it will be worth it you can road tune and save on thoses costly dyno tunes

I'm running the HKS 272's and my idle is lopey but not beyond streetable, your idle will be directly related to the tune. Also a 1000rpm idle will make it smooth as butter
