Spark Plug Gap Change for Spoolin' Up COP?

The COP fixed my up top stuttering, but now I'm throwing P0300 codes like it's cool. Spark plugs are BPR8ES gapped around 24.

Mods: stroker, 50trim, etc. 26psi and 400whp on MD dyno. Car is an Evo 8. The car is driving just fine otherwise.

You can open them up a little with the COP system. As in 26-28. Don't know if that would help the code though.

No real right answer. With my old Electromotive Tech II I could run 0.042" and 22psi with no issue and above that it would sputter. If the COP is giving good spark you could start at 0.030" and see what happens. I used to run 0.032" and 28psi all day long. I guess my point is that you will need to see what your system will tolerate.

You need to just disable the P0300 code via periphery bits...

re read...

was yours the one that was there the other day with the stroker kit ?

do you have a way to pull your rom ?

bobby must have been in a hurry, but i can fix it if you pull your rom ? If not, we will need the car for about 5 minutes

otherwise, deal with the 0300 for a brief while, mod the car a bit more, bring her back for a retune and it can be fixed then.

how much power is there to be gained in opening up the plug gap anyway? Worth doing? As I recently got the cop too, before that I gapped my plugs to .20

not much power i wouldnt think.... but a wider gap helps the plugs to last longer i believe.

Yeah I messaged Justin about it originally because it was the first time I threw a 0300 code. When I read "misfire" I was like "oh ****." But it doesn't seem to really affect anything. So when i went in for the tune I thought Bobby knew it was throwing it. No big deal if he didn't know because it would have been my responsibility to tell him. It happens really randomly.

More of my problem right now is the car was tuned for 26psi and it's definitely damn near 2Bar on my Defi gauge. I think that's in 5th gear though. I turned the boost down a bit, but not sure how much. Bobby said it wouldn't really hurt anything to be around 27 anyway.

I'm not sure what my plans are next for the car. It's at a comfortable power level for me. If the 0300 code isn't going to hurt anything then more than likely I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. If I can get my plugs gapped properly and it's still throwing the code then I might have to do something else and bring it in. Maybe ditch the 50trim for something else.

yea you are going to spike a lil higher in 5th gear.
On the 50trim subject that is the main thing i was going to discuss with you. 50 trims were pretty hot about 3 years ago but you hit a wall on pump gas pretty soon with them as where you are now. I would DEF look at ditching it for something along the lines of a 5857 or a HTA82. bolt right up and make a night and day difference with hardly any spool change

Did he say night and day ?

I think its a little more like enfuego to frio lol.....

50 trims like he said were a good thing.... a long time ago. Back when people wanted a little more power than stock and spool quicker. With your build, you could take that 5857 and spool a little slower than now but have so much more power.

The 0300 will go and come back pretty much no matter what you do.... it doesnt ever effect anything, it only leaves the CEL on the whole time, and if you throw a code that may matter, you wont know about it. Thats why we just turn it off. If you get bored one weekend, or come up for one of the meets/track days we are scheduling... we will turn it off for you.
