Dude, you better switch to automatic as soon as possible.
Manual is not for you.

Question about gear engagement and upgrades: Will new bushings, short throw kit, etc have any potential negative wear effects? Does engaging quicker make the synchros work harder then they were designed to? Will new bushings change anything from factory design that could lead to problems down the road?

Asking this as a newb whose trying to learn as much as I can. I understand the tranny in general, and get how the short throw is changing the fulcrum of the shifter giving it a more speed for shorter distance, but I don't get how the bushings make the shift feel smoother. And why mitsi wouldn't have put out the extra 10 bucks for better bushings if its that simple an upgrade for the difference it seems to make.

Thanks for any input!

I already change the driveline fluids this past weekend to redline MT-90 in the tranny and 75w-90 in the diff and transfer. but i still have the exact same feel.

I have heard others saying that replacing the rubber bushings in the shifter makes a world of difference. I am just curious what everybody's input is on this....

Do you have a notchy shifter????

How did you fix it??????
try installing some shifter bushings. the stock units are very soft.

it is notchy, but i have never missed a gear. I think it feels good, maybe just shorten the throw a little?

It aint all in the timing. My EVO has 1300 miles and what appears to be a bad 3rd synchro in mid-rpms. My 911 has 185k-I don't have to double clutch even in 2nd.

I have an '05 MR and experience the same issue. I don't think its a problem, and I believe the solid feel shifting (unless slowly pushing it into gear- first into neutral, then into gear), is normal on all evos. I have owned an '03 evo and it felt the same way, even though the MR comes with a 6 speed.

Note: The 4th and 5th gears seemed quicker and easier to shift into in the '03, as the 5th and 6th do in the MR. I think this is because when driving quickly and having to shift through the first 1-3 gears, the shifts come up so fast compared to the last 2 gears.

Just my thoughts.

I also think the most obvious sign of synchro problems is a grind- usually notchy feel cannot be attributed to a broken / worn down synchro (or 2 or 3, depending on what gear you're talking about).

make sure you let that baby warm up before evaluating the notchiness. You can also break things if you force it when it's cold. My shifter is a little notchy, but my driving is usually the notchiest thing.

If its grinding every time you shift "normally", then your synchros have gone bad. Have the dealership fix it as it will only get worse .....

the clutch feels like it should. i understand what you mean by the clutch being "notchy". mine feels like that but i think its more of a solid feeling.
