Exhaust Cutout vs. Turboback Exhaust

deciding on my exhaust setup.
its either go with a 3inch downpipe and have a cut out welded into my test pipe and run the cut out with the stock exhaust.
or.
3inch downpipe and probably a megan racing or invidia catback..

i have heard many different sides.
some ppl tell me cut out all the way, it get peak performance
than some ppl tell me that a cut out KILLS low end torque drastically..
i dont see many ppl runing cut outs on evo's thats why i am leaning toward a turboback, i just like the fact of running a cut out so when a cop busts my ***** i can simply shut it off.. but im looking for raw performance. i'll sacrifice a little ball busting for better performance..

I think tuning has alot to do with it also; you might want to call around to a couple of tuners and see what they recommend. I'm not an expert, but I'd imagine that if you tune with the cutout open, it'll run like **** when it's closed (and vice versa).

With a 3" exhaust, you don't have to worry about this...

Yes...but with the ecu gurus and the great things they have discovered...you could run two tunes...one that you switch to when you open the cutout....and the other for your daily driving...

I am running a cutout where my cat used to be. I got alot faster than I did when I had a cat and catback exh. I do believe I lost some low end! Also a pretty grizzly sound ! Sounds like this junky chevy cavalier with an exhuast leak running around town haha. Don't get an electronic one. Just get one that u bolt the plate one and keep it with u. The electronic ones don't seal and u bAsically have an exhAust leak whenever it's closed. Don't think the cable ones are much better.

I will have to try with a 3" and see if I really lost a tad bit of lowend or if I'm just trippin *****. Like I said though I am alot faster over all.

nice posts!! i am in the same as you are. i don`t know if installing a greddy turbo back exaust or only a 3" dounpipe with boost cutout and original catback for city driving. when i give some gas passing the 11psi will be like race exaust. what do you ppl think?? thanks.
