I've got a knock off of one of these ("long" style that has a scope infront of the radiator) sitting around. If you are interested, PM me.
I belive you have to cut the hood to make this fit on an 8 or 9. They are made for the Evo 7, right?

Fair enough. Where does the snorkel, itself, come in?

At my power level 350 awhp there is not a big difference.
Right.

And yes the snorkle is the main restriction of the stock intake box.
The overall restriction for making power with the stock air box is the filter element. Look up the part number from K&N and call them to get the CFM rating. What you will find is the flow is rated at under 500cfm so the filter is really only designed for ~325hp @ flywheel. Yes you can make more power, but with a higher pressure drop across the filter.

Whatever power level you want to make, multiply that by 1.5 and that is how much CFM your filter needs to provide. The ARC box is a good substitute and I recently purchased one as a baseline to create my own. I am in the process of making my own box using two K&N filters that flow a total of ~900cfm.

With the stock box and K&N in the boost would taper from 21psi to ~19psi. With the ARC box the boost holds 21psi to redline. This lets me know the stock box/filter is a big restriction.

I still don't see the point of doing all of this. Just get a proven Buschur, AMS, ETS, HKS, or alike intake system.

Another quick note. I let a buddy of mine borrow the ARC box to do some logs. With no other change other than swapping the stock box/K&N filter to the ARC jobber the AFR's went from 10.8:1 to 11.5:1. This was 21psi.

A couple of months ago I went to the dyno and did 2 pulls to compare, one with the airbox with a Works Filter, modified airbox lid and the snorkle in place. Then did a back to back pull with no airbox lid and no filter. The peak difference was 5 awhp. There were places when I saw maybe 8 awhp diff along the powerband. Same tune, same boost a little leaner without the filter and lid. Maybe with some tuning I may get a lil more.

I am tempted to test the Perrin but it is a $250 test. For now I think I will modify the airbox side and I already have the lid modified and the WORKS filter. I need to save $$ for a BBK or an HTA Green.

Whether you see more significant gains will really depend on the hp levels of the vehicle you are testing. If your test was for a car in the 300hp@wheels range then differences may be small as you noticed. If you are testing in the 400hp@wheels range then the difference may be larger. What HP level where these tests based?

Another bonus of the ARC box is the custom cast velocity stack inside the box.

Car puts 350 awhp at 23psi. ARC box looks like a nice piece but it is too much money for what it is.

Indeed, which is why you need to find one used for ~$225.
