Whatever power level you want to make, multiply that by 1.5 and that is how much CFM your filter needs to provide. The ARC box is a good substitute and I recently purchased one as a baseline to create my own. I am in the process of making my own box using two K&N filters that flow a total of ~900cfm.
With the stock box and K&N in the boost would taper from 21psi to ~19psi. With the ARC box the boost holds 21psi to redline. This lets me know the stock box/filter is a big restriction.

The overall restriction for making power with the stock air box is the filter element. Look up the part number from K&N and call them to get the CFM rating. What you will find is the flow is rated at under 500cfm so the filter is really only designed for ~325hp @ flywheel. Yes you can make more power, but with a higher pressure drop across the filter.
I am tempted to test the Perrin but it is a $250 test. For now I think I will modify the airbox side and I already have the lid modified and the WORKS filter. I need to save $$ for a BBK or an HTA Green.

Whether you see more significant gains will really depend on the hp levels of the vehicle you are testing. If your test was for a car in the 300hp@wheels range then differences may be small as you noticed. If you are testing in the 400hp@wheels range then the difference may be larger. What HP level where these tests based?
