Ok... here we go again... Another thing pooped out. I finally got to the point that I can cranck up my evo 9. It was purchased as a theft recovery car. Most of the things are back on the car now, so I crancked her up and hear this: (not my video, but same sound)

Ok, what could that be? Lifters? Could that be a belt tensioner or belt itself issue? If that is lifters, do I need to get the new ones, or re-tighten em up and bleed em up would stop this? Im kind a lost, help me out....

Sounds like lifters need a good bleeding. Doesn't hurt to try.

car has 50k miles, do you think bleeding them should do it, or I better start looking for the new ones... actualy in the video is worser than in my car, so I hope bleed is all that necessary... Is that common with evos, or thats part of maintainance?

nothing really really, 4g63's are known for this issue i wouldnt bother with them until you were changing like springs reatiners valves etc....

any particular brand lifters you guys recomend? I will try to get a video sometime this week and see what you guys think... it just sounds so dangerous, i dont want to bent my valves or mess up my cams...

my car sounded like that. then it got "worser" and turns out the #4 rod bearing went out and the noise was then called rod knocking

but as of know it does sound like a lifter. you can get anti-knocking lifters

i bleed my lifters today. Ticking is still present...

My exhaust is not hocked up so i didnt do the 30sec idle, rev to 3k rpm 10 times reapeatedly procedure cause my neigbors will get mad...

I even tried disconecting one spark plug at the time to see if it is a rod knock... sound was still there even with each spark plug remooved. Is this a decent way to test for rod knock/spun bearing?

The knock is only at low revs. When I reach 4-6k it stops or I cant hear it because my exhaust is open... Its most notisable at 2.5k rpm. Its not as loud as a rod knock... what do you think?

Some say exhaust leaks produce similar sound. I dont think its the open exhaust that is producing this sound, because I can even feel a ticking vibration on the head.

Unplugging a spark plug wouldnt tell you if the rod is not knocking. Spark or not the rod still rotates with the crank moving

how can i check if i have a rod knock/spun bearing? Take the oil pan and do what? Any other ways without remooving the oil pan?

i have also noticed a very little i mean very little amount of cooper looking metal shavings in the rocker qrooves where it touch the lifter. On every singhle one

pull the head, change the lifters with new ones. check your valves and go see if the timing is off. step by step and 1 by 1. GL and keep us updated!

cheapest is oil pan off then just rotate the crank around and feel each of the rod caps to see if they are loose and look in the pan for metal shavings.

then pull head and replace stuff.

hell bro build a monster and use this lifter or rod as an excuse.(what i did) LOL
