FP upgrade question

Can they only upgrade the 9 turbo or can they also do the 10.5 hotside 8 turbo. IIRC the only difference is the compressor housing and wheel, which FP changes anyway...

Actually, the IX comp wheel and the VIII comp wheel are the same thing. The compressor housing and the diffuser/backplate are different.

I have searched and I can not find an answer for my question, but what does "BBK" and "HTA" stand for?

I didn't want to start a whole new thread just for those questions. Sorry to thread jack.

So the 9 10.5 hotside and the 8 10.5 hotside are different?

Its ok... I have heard that BBK stands for Big Blue Kompressor... I guess the compressor wheels on them are anodized blue. As for the HTA, according to Robert@forced performance, it does not stand for anything at all... I was just the name of the prototype wheel they finished designing with.

The FP White was an upgraded VIII turbo but I don't think they do that upgrade anymore. All VIII turbo's came with the 9.8 hotside not the 10.5...

The USDM VIII and IX 16G turbos both share the same turbine wheel. On USDM VIII and IX turbos there are three possibilities as far as the turbine housings are concerned: The 9.8 turbine housing on the '03 VIII's. Then there are two possible 10.5 turbine housing variants available in '04 and '05 I think). There is the earlier dual-puck 10.5 and the later single puck 10.5 housing.

All USDM 2005 VIII's came with a 10.5 turbine housing. I believe the 2005 MR came with a dual-flapper 10.5 hotside, but the rest are single flappers(same as the IX 10.5 hotside). I don't really think the dual-flapper 10.5 hotside was the best design, as just about all aftermarket stock frame turbo's use the single flapper design. I think it caused unwanted turbulence in the o2 housing, which will increase backpressure post turbine wheel(if my theory is-in-fact true). The single flapper seems to work perfectly.
