Manley Crankshaft question

will a manley forged race series crankshaft be ok with what im going with. im putting an 850R turbo setup on a 2.3 motor. I noticed manley makes the forged crank and the forged billet crank wich is twice as expensive. jw if the cheaper non billet one will be ok. And are the stock cranks on our cars billet does anyone know?

Just use an oem crank unless you want the billet piece. The factory crank is plenty strong and has pretty good oiling. The only reason i would run an aftermarket is to get stroke not offered by mitsu.

If your thinking about spending money on a billet crankshaft be sure to check out a Winberg.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ve...ank-there.html

Last I heard the Manley cranks are weighing in around 38lbs! Winberg cranks only weigh 26lbs. Get rid of that unwanted rotational mass!

Let me know if your interested.

Those sure look like nice cranks but most can't afford them, especially when they still have the rest of the rotating assembly to buy. The Billet Manley cranks are somewhat more affordable and still a quality piece that can handle what most builds will put them through. The OEM crank is a great piece also.

i believe it goes like this 2.2 is a 4g64 block with a 4g63 crank88mm, 2.3l is a 4g63 block with a 4g64 crank100mm. But as a 2.3l and a 2.4l are going to have about the same redline the 2.4l is superior in my opinion and from what i have seen.

As long as you choose the right parts, there is no head gasket problem!

Power Enterprise gasket + L19 studs is a proven working combination!

I now have about 10k miles on my daily driven 4g64/fpblack/mivec combination. It is tuned on e85 @ 37psi and hammered on daily!

you need to read the sticky called to stroke or not to stroke. It covers all the rod angle differences side loading difference and more info then one can take in an afternoon. Personally I don't think the 64 is worth the hassle of having to degree it a bunch of lil things not lining up and not having piston squirters.

Going the 4g64 route is not bad actually hmm you degree camgears 3.75 and have to get adjustable gears. you can get new ones for 150 shipped if you look. then you get a custom waterpump adaptor plate and spacer from slowboy and you need to get a longer timing belt from slow boy. you can get the whole package for 150+shipping. you can then get the HG from horsepowerfreaks.com for 220+shipping or get AMS custom one for less. Yes does not have oil squirters but not required. there is a whole thread on are squirters need it a good read but you can get them machined in if you wish for a small cost. the 4g64 built is just a beast motor then if you do the LR4g64 !!!!!!

Beasting all day

You dont need to get a belt from slow boy, the oem belt for a 94 galant 4g64 DOHC works perfect. Also a oem headgasket for a 4g64 works fine with arp head studs.

t belts are not that expensive to begin with. HG has to be 87mm. either way not a expensive project to undertake the expensive part is paying for built block and built head the extras are inexpensive.

I would put money on 9 out of ten ppl on here don't know how to degree cams. Buschur doesn't even do it, He just runs it one tooth off lol.

As far as the other stuff is concerned it doesn't sound to bad, do you just use the timing cover from the 64? I would def do this route before a 2.3 stroker, those create some nasty rod angle and where the walls of the bore quick. it may be better on the street but in terms of longevity the 2.0 is superior.
