Importance of the felt bushing

I was swapping out my clutch and I got to the part where I'm taking out the TOB. There are two springs and two felt bushings that go on that little bar that holds the clutch fork in the transmission. I took out one of the felt bushings and it was torn. Now I need a replacement for that felt bushing. My question is how important are these felt bushings and would it be okay to run without it? Thanks in advance.

They act like seals keeping the grease on the pivot and the dirt out.

Bringing this thread back to see if anyone knows where to get replacement felt bushings or alternatives to the felt bushings?

I forget what they look like but I do remember reinstalling them when I greased my clutch fork pin.....Get one from the stealership or go to a arts n crafts store that sells felt or similiar material and make your own.

I reused them last time I changed the clutch, and if I remember right one of them was torn but I used it anyway. I guess I can try the arts and crafts route but I was hoping there were others out there that have had to replace them.

Anyone?

they make felt rings for battery terminals to prevent corrosion. I used once of those for my clutch and it worked perfect. You can get them at any auto parts store.
