It was a bad batch...it has long been fixed. I bought a set of used cams on here with about 1k miles. Sent pics of the intake cam (that was the issue) to Cosworth and they couldn't tell if it was bad or not. So I sent it in and they still couldn't tell or not because they needed to do tests...so they just sent me a new one, no questions or anything. And they paid for return shipping.

Don't know how Kelford is going to handle this but Cosworth knows how to handle mistakes. Very happy I went with them...

We have only seen one break so far. Typically higher spring rate valvesprings and kevlar timing belts combined with mivec cam being thin at the journal coupled with being crossdrilled through the cam makes it a weak spot and puts a lot of stress on that area.

So when you say fixed you personally know everyone that had a failure has been reimbursed by Cossie?

The fact that they will replace the cam for you is nice, but what about the 6k its going to take to rebuild the motor and rework the head. Who is covering those costs? I know you pay to play, but its one thing to break it beating the **** out of the motor, and another for parts manufacturers putting defective products out in the market. In my eyes the costs for the parts their product destroys lies on their shoulders, not the OPs.

I agree, all to often, more and more companies put profit margins ahead of good ole fashion customer service.

Im pretty sure the only Kelfords breaking are on evo 9 mivec motors. Has anyone broke or heard of a broken kelford on a non mivec 8?

I think your best bet will be to contact Kelford and give them a chance to replace your motor. If Kelford stands behind their product, and their product failing was the direct cause of your motor failure, Kelford should be responsible for fixing your motor.

Lets be reasonable here - it's very appreciated that Kelford is replacing the broken cam, but paying to rebuild the motor? How does Kelford know the cams weren't improperly installed? Just playing devil's advocate here.

the fact that some of you think kelford will step in and pay for the motor is laughable at best. This is the aftermarket world guys. thats what all the small print is for. thats like over revving a built motor and expecting the company to cover it. The one thing to always ask yourself is, if you were the owner of a company, would you truthfully stand up, raise your hand and say, I will cover every motor if for some reason it was proven that my cam was the culprit. If you can, then more power to you. But being in Management myself, it is very hard to step up and do that. And you all can't say it is until you are making decisions based on profit / service for your own company.

Please don't mis read my post, I think they should step in and pay but the reality is its an aftermarket part and an internal part at that. Sad to say but it won't happen. If they do, that is without a doubt a stand up/out company. There are just to many variable's in that equation, who built the motor, was it properly built, etc etc

Good luck with the car man

So how do we tell if the cam has be revised or not? I was planning on installing my GSC s1's this weekend but if is just a kelford cam ground by GSC then... is there any way to tell?

Been running Kelfords since last year fall. I was thinking about going with some ER GSC's or FP4/5R's when I get my motor rebuilt. Looks like I'll be doing that for sure now.
