Im changing Transfer Case fluid now. Driver side CV shaft is out. Can I use the CV shaft hole to fill the Transfer Case with fluid or do I have to use the filling hole ?

I just received the TC from Shep, and he suggest it to use the part where Drive Shaft attaches to TC to fill TC with 1qt of oil, drive it, and then open the fill plug to drain excess fluid. I already put Drive Shaft on, but my passenger CV shaft is still out, and I want to use it to dump fluid into TC .. Can I do it ??

Just use the fill hole if that's convenient...about a half a quart I think

im trying. I measured .58qt, and it keeps overflowing once I get about .4 qts in. Im doing everything slowly. I did this on my 05 ACD Tc and it took me a while, but I managed to get ~.58qt in.

But for some reason 03 non-ACD Tc keeps pushing fluid out, no matter how slow I go. ACD and non-ACD take same amount of fluid correct ? I have 04Evo manual and it shows .58qt.

One thing to think about is if the bottom of the cutout in the case is lower than the fill hole, you won't get enough fluid in. But it sounds like you know how much it's supossed to take and you've got that amount in there.

To know you are at the level you should be at, the fill plug would have to come out anyway so the excess could spill out.

if you use a tube that is the exact size of the hole you can overfill it if you want to add the full qt and the drain like shep says. most of the plunger style fluid things (cant think of their official name right now) have that size hose on them. you can pick them up anywhere.

was the tcase dry when you installed it?

I fill through the fill hole making sure to get the correct .58 qt in. Has never done me wrong. I do agree that you need to be careful though as if you try to fill it through the fill hole to quickly it'll **** right back out.

when I got mine back from being rebuilt I had everything hooked up and filled through the filler hole with a fluid pump and kept pumbing until fluid started coming out pluged it drove it for a few miles got back and let some of the fluid out and checked for leaks. Like the note says that you got with it you want to overfill a tad to make sure everything gets lubercated since you get it pretty much bone dry

I had mine on jackstands so I know it's sligtly overfilled but not by much. For this style fill hole, I would say it's better to be a little over than under.

if you fill it all you can and you don't think it is enough, drive the car around the block a couple times,, about a mile then top it up

The engine may be leaning back a little and causing it to leak out before its actually where it should be.

Do you just have the front wheels in the air? That may be why too

Yes. My front is on jack stands, and rear on two 2x4 under each wheel. Im going to put 1qt through the drain plug, using the 3/8 fitting. Pain in the *** lol
