Opinions on Using Friction Modifier in your Diffs?

I did a quick search but nothing came up addressing the specific issue; sometimes in other threads there were recommendations..

I put this in my rear diff to help break in my cusco 1.5 way type RS, but i'll probably toss is after this change. I may add some later if I notice any chatter or binding.. my general impression was that the diff wont lock as aggressively, but it's "better" for the rear diff..

opinions?

PS I use amsoil severe gear 75w90 in the rear diff along with it, but I may just run the severe gear next time.

you are using sever gear 75w90 and this fluid already has in the mix friction modifiers, they are actually called "slip lock"

you can add more if you feel the brand new diff you installed is slipping, but should not be necesarry.

ahh gotcha. you mean add more if the diff is binding? since the friction modifier is to increase slip/decrease the friction and binding/chatter

Use it if you need it. I have had vehicles which needed it first refuse to turn and then if you put more input into the steering, suddenly make a loud noise and then be free to turn. This can catch you by surprise so be careful.

yea i just saw ur post in the other thread.. i wonder if shep would recommend the diaqueen for my cusco too.. i've also actually been thinking about running something with a heavier weight, like 75w110 or something for more protection.

I think he recommended diaqueen up to like 500 HP. Above that, I think it was a shockproof/Diaqueen mix that got changed often for drag racing?

+1
By far the smoothest operation of any of the fluids I tried for our 1.5way cusco.

also, is it normal that when i use the amsoil gl4 manual trans fluid and gl5 severe gear they come turqoise and maroon when i change the fluid? they're both like a clearish light brown when they go in, i always thought that was really really weird (nothing else goes in to the trans and transfer case)
