This.

Yeah, I was lucky though and am still under the 1 year warranty. So we will see what they say when I send it in. Shouldn't take more than a week.

I thought the other major concern with throwing ball bearings into the FP xxx colored series turbos were the need to add an anti-surge compressor housing?

No, there are plenty of big BB turbo's out there. We are talking a few hundred RPM.

I would like the BB upgrade for a reliability upgrade. The BB will survive higher thrust loads and less stellar oiling. I could give a crap about faster spool but I wouldnt turn it down.

At what cost the BB upgrade though , Batty? By comparison, what is the price of doing a rebuild of your journal bearinged turbo? A shop can't charge more than a couple hundred bucks, I'll bet.

I am sure that I could rebuild my journal bearing 16G turbo myself. In fact, there are a couple of how-to threads on the forums. The rebuild kit can't cost more than a couple hundered bucks either.

How nice is it though to not have to do it? How much is the headache to replace a dead turbo worth to you? Time is very valueable. I would spend the 800 to make my turbo more reliable. It is apparent that stock frame turbos run VERY hard like in the 40+psi range they dont live too long. If I knew it would make my 40psi FP black or red live as long as a stocker at 20psi I would do it. I would prob however just go t3 DBB in any case though because I feel that in the long haul people spend more on stock frame turbos. So I guess I should really stay out of the convo

With a 5 month old baby and 2 jobs I dont have much time at all. Thats why I have been sitting on hks 272's, 6262R turbo kit, BS eliminator, rod bolts and a FMIC to install on my evo for almost a year now. Hopefully I will be able to slow down some once my finances settle down. I was even considering selling the EVO and my STi just so I would have more time and less stress. Time is very valuable commodity!

What are all the advantages to BB turbo other than faster spool and supposedly lasts longer? I'm trying to see if I want to spend the extra $900+...

Yes, you can get a DBB Green, Red, and Black. It's actually cheaper than $2550, and all three units are priced the same. Contact Mikey @SpecOps and he will set you up with the best deal. The turbos are...2-4 weeks out I think?

Also, FP isn't offering an upgrade option to the BB edition turbos until summer, and that is if they do it at all.
