Special oil for E85?!?!

Recently the topic of discussion with the local Evo guys is using "special" oil for E85. Since E85 is basically alcohol and alcohol naturally draws moisture. That being said some of the guys are using a higher zinc oils. Others are using AMSOIL but changing their oil before the 3,000 mile mark. What are others on E85 using for oil? I have been using Mobile 1 with a Mobile 1 filter and changing it at 3,000 miles. Some type of hard facts or literature would be great!

I use the same oil and change it every 5k. I sent my oil into Blackstone Labs and they said it was still clean at 3k and could easily go 5k or more.

As for the 1/4 mile time, I have similar mods but I have a 9 and 11.86 @ 115. 28 psi spike to 21 towards redline with a leaking BOV.

My car used to DLL alittle over 400whp or so. We havent retuned with new ETS intercooler or LICP so hopefully it picks it up some. I havent taken to the track yet, I just race from a roll!

That's probably not going to be of benefit where this is concerned. The most important indicator in this regard is probably TBN (Total Base Number), which indicates an oil's ability to buffer acid formation. So long as that holds up, you should be ok.

My boss used to sell oil, actually Schaeffer Oil to be exact and from I gathered that he said that some companies use more zinc to neutralize acids. Again I am gonna quote him by saying zinc isnt always the best solution for neutralizing acids. I dont know the answer to what is better just quoting what I have been told? This is why I started this thread is hear what everyone else has to say about the proper oil for E85 or if there even is a "proper" oil for E85. I am really curious to see what people have to say.

I think i'm gonna go with amsoil when my rebuild gets done. I have used it in all my other toys and never had a problem in any of those

+1

I sent an oil sample in for analysis and was told that that fuel levels were near zero and the oil was in good condition.

Mobil 1 10w30, 1500 miles, 50 autocross runs, 90-120 track minutes.

I think I am gonna stick with Mobile 1 and just change it every 3,000 miles as I have been for the past 40,000 miles since I owned the car. If you go to the AMSOIL website they compare Mobile 1 and AMSOIL along with various other oils. On the 10w30 full synthetic page it shows a graph with two comparisons pour point and percentage of weight loss. AMSOIL and Mobile have the pour point which is -54 degrees and they differ in the weight loss. Mobile losses 3% more than AMSOIL which the only other oil they tested being better in Castrol GTX. That being said I cant see paying the $3 to $4 dollar a quart difference for the AMSOIL. I am no oil expert nor do I claim to be I am just a dumb *** reading stuff on the internet. Maybe if I did some hardcore drag racing or SCCA racing AMSOIL might be beneficial but I dont. Now remmin' around town and bettin' up on V8's I do that!

Parido you suck! LOL

apagan,

Do you have any tests showing amsoil is better than other aftermarket/name brand oils in the area of oil dilution due to ethanol usage?
