Took my valve cover off and I noticed today that one of my lifters has a broken end on it. Does this mean that the valve has droped into the cyclinder?

If the reteiner is still on the valve stem then no it did not fell in. But is the rocker still there?

forget the retainer. the stem is up, and the spring keeps it lifted i.e. closed. also, if it dropped, you WILL know. usually this results in an instant catastrophy, and if you restart it will shudder and make clanking spound (as you can tell i had this happen to me).

If the lifter is broken, but you can still see the spring and retainer in tact then that means it has been shut. If the valve was stuck open due to a seized lifter or an obstruction in the valve path then you would have noticed it, because most likely you would have bent or broken that valve and had significant other issues. If it is stuck closed, then you were just robbing yourself of power and working that other valve overtime.
