Please Advise on my Evo 5 Balance Shaft.

Hi guys,
just wonder do we need polishing to the balance shaft journal?
Im rebuilding my evo 5 engine due to a fail rod bearing.

I noticed my balance shaft journal condition is about the same as my cranks journal after a burnt rod bearing. What should i need to do? Do i need to replace the 2 balance shaft?
I also noticed there are bearings exactly like the main and rod bearing.
Or i just need to change the balance shaft bearing?

Please advise.

If you threw a rod bearing--everything touched by contaminated oil needs to be changed or reground...so yes have a machine shop look at the shaft and absolutly change the bearings. A short cut now will cost much more later if it fails.

Thanks Meckert...But i thought when i purchased the ACL bearings for the main & rod its already comes in the package?
Will it be difficult to find the balance shaft "U" type bearings?

check that surface carefully. usually the shaft is ruined if there was bearing wear. the shaft is heavy on one side when it rotates. so the wear occurs on the heavy side. this means its no longer round and not usable.

Thanks Man, but which to replace since thereb are equipped with 2 balance shafts. The left balance shaft that's directly connected to the oil pump driven gear and the right balance shaft that's driven by the balance shaft belt over the oil pump sprocket???

Can i send the current oem balance shaft for polishing or should i go for the balance shaft eliminator kit??? But still, which 1 to be replace by the kit?

i think what 94awdcoupe was saying is you need to measure the balance shaft that spun the bearing.
If it's not circular anymore (from uneven wear) then you need to bin it. i.e. there is no point polishing a balance shaft that is beyond repair.

Then you need to decide if you want to replace it with a 2nd hand item, new, or remove them all together. There are countless threads talking about balance shaft removals. You should talk to your engine builder and find out which is best for you.

Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike and for yr personal opinion, what do you suggest???
1) Replace the oem bs to mitubishi oem bs eliminator stub kit (but there are 2 shafts and which to replace? both?)

2) Polish the current 2 mit oem bs and change the rear & front bearings only???

Pls advise...
