Startup Clatter/Clunk noise after some hard runs?

After a few runs/launches, I am cruising about 50 mph and I hear some rattling but it sounded like tires kicking gravel. I hit the next stop light then get back into gear and the motor sounded like it choked with a lot of clunk/clatter at low rpms.

I pull to the side and shut it off. Checked for leaks or anything visible and couldn't see anything wrong. I go back to start it up and it clunked/clatter really loud around right when the motor is about to turn over. I shut it off again and wait. After couple startup's, it goes away. Oil pressure is good and car is running fine.

I get home and started to check everything out. Oil level is fine, power steering was dry and nothing left so I put some fluid in. I checked the starter and oil was all over from a leak in the turbo oil line. Also, I pulled the transmission inspection hole and metal dust came out, a small amount.

I fire up the car and it starts fine without any noise but when I turn on the headlights, the car started to make a little clatter/vibration around the transmission area.

Also, somehow after this happened it became a lot easier to shift into gears.

Anyone ever experienced this?

Your twin disc is now probably a 1.5 disc man. Sounds like it's toast.

The noise went away and shifts perferctly fine. Now it just does the normal chatter from a twin.

Only one real way to find out.

Don't beat on it the rest of the week, or if you have a daily driver drive that around.

Take the tranny appart and inspect the clutch.

Are you sure its coming from the trans? The sound of "gravel" might be the disk falling apart inside while you were driving.

Wouldn't it affect shifting? tranny shifts smooth. I am still not totally sure on where the noise came from but it'certainly around the transmission area and not the motor.

I going to pull the starter and acess panel off and make sure the flywheel is ok.
