Either that or misfiring. What country are you from? I've never heard of pops and bangs used in reference to antilag.

in the UK pops and bangs is the term they use for antilag (mild) that takes advantage of the OEM setup that comes on evos, I have it (JDM antilag) but I have yet to find someone to help me tune to work (pop and bang haha)

If you have an E5, it should have the air injection tubes going into the exhaust manifold. I think the euro guys do something with that to give you pops & bangs.
heres some posts you may find interesting: http://lancerregister.com/showthread...ght=pops+bangs http://www.lancerregister.com/showth...ghlight=howard
For everyone wondering- its called pops and bangs over there pretty commonly, all it is is neg timing and fuel... and I WANT IT!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwvYqmrP_BQ

over time it can harm the turbo from the unburnt fuel exploding so close to the turbine housing etc.. thats what it does.. it sprays fuel before your turbine housing and uses fire to spool the turbo faster.. can be manipulated with retarding timing massively, but the jdm evos have antilag setup from factory and most guys remove it for more reassurance. i would not use it on a street vehicle.. for a stationary rev limit / stutter box sure, but constant driving? no way.
