Necessary to replace valve locks?

I did a search, and after sifting through 10 pages, could not find an answer. I am putting new valves, springs, and retainers in my head- Is it necessary to replace the valve locks? I have not read of any 1 failure of the genuine mitsu parts, sooo???? I know most shops will tell me yes, because they want loot-
Anyone ever have a valve lock failure?
Thanks!
Matt

Most shops would suggest to replace them not because of money for them but to decrease liability. In operation the valve spring, valve, and retainer all rotate as well as move axially. So there will be some amount of wear on the locks over alot of miles. No way to really know for sure how much is worn but compared to what dropping a vale costs I'd just pay the $2 a piece or whatever they are for piece of mind.
