The slow spool, make me thing twice on this product but the price seems reasonable for the complete kit.

Read about FP Green HTA and the latest FP Green Ball Bearing(BB) very tempting but the price very much higher the expected.
This FP Green just Plug& Play (PnP) product for EVO8?

Is there any possibilities to refurbish/upgrade the existing TD05-16G to Ball Bearing type?
And workable range of power to achieve around 450BHP on crank without too much load?
Hope to get best possible cost to spend.

You guys the turbo spools fast. You have to open up everything before the arms. Upgrade Intake, uicp, licp and o2. Mine rips through first, second, and third. It pulls like crazy. The spool is about 500 rpm later but with a proper launch its negligible.

There are a lot of things you can do to make sure it spools quickly--one of the major things is to be sure you have the proper cams and cam timing..for instance you cant have the cams set for top end power ( running the cams retarded) and expect quick spool. Other items have been mentioned above. My HKS is instant on at speed and all in by3800..it wasnt always like this and certainly showed lag before tuning and adjustment over the stock evo vIII turbo.

superkizuna & meckert,
I believe the LICP/UICP and O2 has been covered.
Custom piping and HKS O2 kit.

Now just a matter of turbo to choose due to low budget person like me.
The stock cams on EVO8MR 260/258 seems ok I assume for low-mid power range.
Respond its my goal especially exit the corner...

pangyau,

If you are on a low budget I would say get the HKS turbo. Now, I'm saying this because this turbo is a bit more powerful with no supporting mods. I got the tomei because I have like all bolt-ons possible and it loves that. Of course the HKS would benefit from supporting mods beyond cams but if all you have are cams then get the HKS. I know that seems weird but, hey.

And yes you can get upgrades to the stock turbo (compressor housing, turbine/compressor wheel, and etc.). However, if you get a new compressor housing and turbine/compressor wheel then you have basically got a new turbo-- the price would be almost the same too.

Also, if you achieve 450 whp you will need to build your engine if your torque goes over 400 or you are playing a dangerous game.

superkizuna,
The internal parts of the engine has been covered, as mention on earlier post (Forged, ARPs etc)

Rebuild the existing turbo (TDO5-16G) to billet type 16G/18G/20G etc just half of the cost of new HKS GT2/FP Green Ball Bearing/GTX3071R.
Just the durability or performance wise will be in question if going to this route.
450WHP is far from my aim/target... Looking only 350WHP, close with your current aim.

Probably I need more time and save more on this.

Thats pretty shocking lol mine comes on full boost at 4000rpm on 25psi and i find that a bit laggy.. Benny the one who recommended the TS gate is the one who tuned my car, im considering upgrading to the gate but its a pretty good setup as it is.... from australia so power figures down here are not as inflated as all over the world lol... made 285kw @ 25 psi

setup has ran a 11.8@123mph so far

I just install the HKS GTII KAI on my stock engine evo wagon. This turbine spool faster than stock turbo! 2000rpm - 0.1bar, 2500rpm - 0.5bar. Will tuning and dyno soon.

TJung,
Thanks for the Dyno chart.
Its seem the TOMEI ARMS (Blue actuator) also not bad.
Able to sustain smoothly at peek.

yungchian.chen,
Where you bought it in Malaysia? New or used?
Do you mind to share the price of the unit?

With any mention of spool time you should take into account the supporting mods: intake, O2 housing, cams, throttle body, etc. Big cams will slow your spool and move max torque to the right!
