Breaking in a new built engine

I've just gathered the parts to build over my engine (crank, pistons rods, bearing, etc) but before i get started, What would you just suggest for breaking it in? I read everything from let it idle for 30 mins and just change the oil to run it in -ve boost for the first 1000 miles. What Oil would be recommend for the break-in periods?

Honestly there is tons of info on the net. Some of it conflicting. What I would do if follow the builder recommendations for break in.

Hell 3 well known engine builders on this site will give you different info

This is what AMS says.

I followed it and my engine seems to be okay.

I'm a firm believer in hard break ins. Don't use synthetic for your first couple of oil changes. Prime the engine really good before the first startup. Once it's running, let it idle until it's completely warmed up, take it for a light drive. Then change the oil and drive it like you stole it for about 20 miles. Change the oil one last time and do a compression check. If all is good then have fun.

I think it's more of a why waste the money on synthetic when your gonna dump so frequently at the early break in stages. Can't see any other reason really

I followed AMS's directions but I had it strapped to the dyno @ 500miles. After 5hours of that abuse I am sure it will old up to almost anything.

ahhhhh. the conflicts!
I guess i will try the "safe" route.
30 min idle break in with RP break in oil.
1000km with RP break in oil.
Amsoil engine flush and then amsoil 10w40 high zinc.

Would have liked to know the proper/best results approach though.

You have to let the rings seat properly. Sythetic oil tends to be to "slippery" to let this happen properly
