FP Green Oil Selection

With all the talk of the new oil requirements on blacks and reds because of the steel/steel bearing setup, and mobile 1 wrecking journal bearing turbos I have bee putting a great deal of thought into oil selection but would like opinions. I will be running an hta green in pretty cold weather straight pump, no meth or e85, what brand/weight oil would you guys recommend and WHY. Please dont tell me to search or just say amsoil, thanks guys.

I just picked up my hta green and amsoil 10w40 was the exact oil they recommended for my setup, which is all bolt-ons and no e85 or meth. Even bought a 30-gal barrel of it with the help from Andy at amsoil!

It was amsoil who recommended the 10w40. Amsoil was recommended by everyone on this board, if you haven't guessed already they have a big backing by alot of guys who go very fast. I trust the guys who go faster then me lol. Fp recommended a different brand, which I sadly forget, but am sure they are good too. Amsoil is recommended because of their higher zinc content.

And my god you're gonna love your hta green!!!

Paul

Kendall 20w50, Brad Penn 20w50, Castrol Syntec 5w40 or 10w40. Most of the year I run a 20w50, but I am running 5w40 for the winter. Rotella-T makes a Synthetic 5w40 that is also a great oil. There are a lot of choices out there, Amsoil is great too. IMHO thicker oils keep our oil pumps happy.

I have always used 5-40, just because it comes in 55 gallon drums at work. I get spillage, lol.

Both Cold and warm weather here in NY.

On a stock block you DON'T WANT TO USE a 50 oil - TOO THICK. If you do, you'll be losing 20+ whp and damaging your engine.

I would recommend either 10w-30 Mobil 1 High Mileage or even better (if you can find) the 10w-30 Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck oil.

I also like the Amsoil 10w-30 even better....I have not tested the 40 weight, but based upon my tests with the 50 weight and talking to Mitsu engineers, I'd suspect the 40 may be too thick for the stock motor.

amsoil 10w30 is great stuff. I want to try the new pennzoil ultra though. similar specs to amsoil but much cheaper. Also only one napa store around my area carries amsoil vs. pennzoil is everywhere. I would see what FP recommends, or otherwise stick to 10w30.

Thanks for the feed back guys, i thought Pennzoil was garbage, no? I'm gonna stick with a 30 hot weight but am on the fence on cold. I have ran rp to date and have had great success but want to make sure i am protecting my green.

IMO thicker oils make pumps work harder/ shorten pump life

id say run ams 5w30 for the winter, go for 10w30 in the summer

RP is not a full synthetic and although it may have a great additive package, as many have stated in other threads, you should use 100% synthetic (group 4).
