What's your opinion on cams with stock turbo?

Like the title says I'm looking to get some camshafts for my baby (2003 Evo 8). Current mod list:
K&N cone filter
3inch TBE w/ test pipe
boost gauge
manual boost controller
2.5 lower icp
ETS 3" front mount
Walbro 255lph
innovate lc-1.

I have spoken with several reputable tuners, and their answers are all radically different. Here are their suggestions: HKS 272's, Kelford 272's, GSC S1's, and AWD Motorsports 272. That being said I have decided to hear what my fellow enthusiast opinions are...

Question for you. do you plan on getting an upgraded turbo sometime down the road? If so how big? Just a few questions to ask yourself.
If you plan on staying stock turbo or upping to even a 9 turbo S1's or the new HKS 272's will be a good fit.

If your sticking with the stock turbo - the new HKS Step 2 cams (274/278) would be a good choice. However, be advised - you need a spring and retainer set with these cams. I believe they come with springs - but no retainers. If you have the option to not get the springs, go and get something like supertech or BC's.

If a larger turbo is in your (near) future, definitely go with the Kelford 272's - these also need a set of springs and retainers.

I'm not sure what the future holds for my car, but I do see the possibility of a better stock framed turbo, as well as a ported head.

I was unaware that HKS had a new camshaft. I thought that they were still using the old design, that I had heard were good but surpassed by newer companies.

That's exactly the reason for the new cams. They discontinued all of their older cams the 264's, 272's and 280's because the new cams outperform all of them.

From my recent experience of upgrading to the Kelford 272's and stage 3 head, after the rocker arms broke, at an autox, you'd do well with them. All I know is, I make sure I'm holding the steering wheel with both hands, when the boost hits!

I think that the money for springs and retainers could be better spent on things like a ported and coated manifold and a tubular o2 housing.

HKS 272 or GSC S1's and why?

I have a 9 turbo on my 8, plus other bolt on's similar to yours. I installed HKS 272's with stock valve springs and they hit hard and pull all the way to red line. Great upgrade.

Many options on stock turbo.

HKS 272, S1s, Buddy Club 272.

10.8 lift would be a good start

I think you'll be ok. I'm putting S2's in mine with a stock turbo. I'll be doing a turbo upgrade before this spring though.

I would run GSC S2 and never look back. They are the best cams on the market. I made 90hp when I switched from HKS to my GSCs.
