ok well i hit the track. today was one of the worst track days i ever had. but thats ok. new setup + ****ty driver+ new clutch + ****ty driver + nervous as hell + ****ty driver =s these types of days.

i got 5 passes. all about 36psi. 1st pass i didnt run out. had some tech issues but after this pass i had it taken care of. bogged off the line and shifted out of 3rd about half way. netted a 12.2 at 135mph.

2nd pass 1.62 60 foot and missed 2nd gear.

3rd pass. 1.71 or 1.78 60 foot ''i forget'' 10.4 at 140. i hit 109 in the 1/8th. i do not know where i shfted each gear at. i got to much nerves going on in my head.

4th pass. 1.66 60 foot missed 2nd again. at this point i am noticing on the good 60 foots i cant shift into 2nd. im locked out. why i do not know all the other gears are perfect. so it is probably me.

5th and final pass 1.62 60 and broke a rear axle. again missing 2nd gear. on this pass i turned the boost up some too. but never got to see where it was gonna go.

o well. thats my day today at the track. ill get some vids up in a few. i need to calm down. im not mad at the car. i could care less if it brakes. its gonna happen. thats racing. im just mad at my self for not being with it. i dont know. i need to relax.

I never worry about reaction times, I leave when "I" leave... we are just testing and tuning, plus it's fun to reel people in

i think i have a problem. i dont know. people with experience on rear broken axles can tell me more.

the shaft that go's into the rear end is where it broke. there is a piece still in there and i cant get it out. but worse is the thing broke into a million pieces. so does this mean all that metal is now floating around in my brand new TRE rear diff? here is some pics.

see the crack.

Thats not good...

What tires you running? Could have been wheel hop, stock rear axles are pretty beef.

Nitto 555r are drivetrain breakers. I broke a front diff and a transmission on them long ago in my 2G DSM. They make better road racing tires with their hard compound and stiff sidewalls.

Doesn't look good though, last rear axle failure I saw like that the diff had to be taken apart just to get the rest of the axle out. If junk didn't get in the ring and pinion you'll probably be alright with just a basic strip down, clean, and reassemble. Any time metal goes through bearings and gears though it is always best to error on the conservative side.

If it makes you feel any better, my 3000 mile old Shep diff has been rebuilt 3 times and is currently waiting a 4th rebuild at TRE now.

well i drove the car home. i didnt here any strange sounds in the rear oddly. other then the car at a red light felt like the clutch slipping. but i am told thats normal when you lose and axle. im going to flush out the rear and see if its still alive. maybe i should have towed the damn thing.

damn, this is one problem STi owners totally don't have to worry about, we are around 600whp before getting into trouble on ALL stock parts, minus clutch ofcoarse. Just randomly saying...this trans stuff keeps me out of an evo.

Didn't look like wheel hop(couldn't tell much from the video, but wheel hop looks a lot less smooth than when u broke ur axle), it was maybe just it's time to go.

Best of luck dan
