Oil surge on drag launch

Here is a log from a 11.5 sec run in my Mirage.
60 ft was 1.69 with full street tyres and normal tyre pressures.

Is this common for Evo's?
I'm running a stock evo6 sump.
Oil level was "full", not overfilled.
I will be overfilling it at the next meet and relogging to see what it does.
Oil surge was not present on a 1.80 60ft.

Cheers, Mike

the pans arent baffled good enough to keep the oil in one place, so ya it can slosh around a lot. Maybe try putting a kiggly HLA regulator on it and retest? or contact Dave Buschur to modify your oil pan with better oil control

i knew you'd come and say hi in this thread

I'm running the kiggly HLA at the moment.
Sending my sump to the USA from New Zealand isn't really an option (cost $$).

I was just wondering what other people do, i've seen a lot of 10second (and faster) evo's on this site and wanted to know if they actually modify their sumps.

But in saying that, most people wouldn't log oil pressure so they probably wouldn't know if they are getting surge or not

Cheers, Mike

I'm willing to bet most of those guys have the issue, but like you said will never see it because they dont have the logging equipt to see it. maybe look into a local guy who knows and ask him for some advice. theres gotta be someone there that has modified their pan before.

have you done any testing with and without the kiggly unit? id be very interested to see how much difference it makes

Your data looks similar to what Robert from FP posted a long time ago and why he insisted on running a new oil line (high pressure) to the turbo, rather than the factory line coming off the head. I believe it is a common problem for cars pulling some solid g's. I'd suspect there are plenty of places near you that could help rectify your problem.

ACCUSUMP is what I use to keep oil where it needs to be on drag and roadcourse runs!

nope, no back to back testing done.

yeah i'm using the FP Oil line, so thats good
yeah there are lots of places here that can help out, my tuner being one of them. I've just never heard of people getting oil surge on such a "slow" car.
My 60ft times are nothing spectacular, imagine how bad it will be with semi slicks on it >.<

Accusump is definitely on the cards, it's just a pain in the *** because i'll need to filter the oil going to it (you need to run a non bypass filter to use these) and find a good place to add it in. Probably my oil cooler. If i had thought about it i would have liked to get the oil line for the Accusump outputting into the main bearings oil line (where stock oil pressure switch is), but i didn't think of that. And it's only a 1/8NPT threaded hole, not big enough for proper oil flow i'm guessing. -10AN oil line where my oil cooler taps off is probably my best bet.

Cheers, Mike

it's powered with an evo engine.
The sump is stock evo 5/6. Should be the same as 8/9.

here is a log from the weekend.
195/55/15 semi slicks (Advan A048 front and Potenza RE55S rear, 18psi)

11.39 @ 190kph (118mph) with 1.60 60ft.

oil level was overfilled, about 6-7mm above the "full" indent on the stick. Not too bad considering the 60ft time

Video's on the my build thread

I would install a Tomei slicing baffle.

nice piece of kit, but it wont stop the oil sloshing to the back of the oilpan on a high G launch.

Yes, but it will ultimately keep more oil in the pan at any given time. It's in line with your theory of putting a little bit more oil in. Maybe combining this with Buschur's pan could be the ticket.

i have 100mm crank though, so not sure how it will fit, if at all.
