there were enough people having surge for them to create the cover. Some dont but why take the chance?

We'd need to fully analyze your specific case in detail so as to be able to best determine why in fact you're not experiencing any compressor surge "whatsoever", whereas others do with that same particular 64mm coldside configuration. Please post up detailed build and mod lists.

Part of the issue is also driving style. If you don't go WOT at low RPM, you can use a stock cover on any of the FP turbos.

True. The modulation of the right foot, the amount of WG preload and the particular BOV/DV tightness all have an impact..... agreed buddy. I may be wrong, but I was just imagining that pflores210 just might have his WG set up with little or no additional preload and that his DV spring is on the light side. I agree that a sensitive throttle foot especially at part throttle openings is critical in part throttle situations.

I appreciate your input, EVO8LTW, and I am not being argumentative in the least. I just finished installing a 64mm Red on my Evo 8 and am really curious as to the driveability of this particular configuration. Thanks for your input and take care.

I experienced surge in 4th and 5th gear with my 64mm Red. I had my WGA preloaded to about 21psi, and a Tial BOV with a 7psi spring. 3rd gear had some surge issues if you tried pulling from 2500rpms, but rolling into the throttle around 3500 and it was decent.

Can you use an intake made for the stock 9 turbo with the 84mm cover. i thought it required an upgrade pipe size?

You just need an adapter coupling and then it will work. As long as you are using at least a 3" diameter intake, it shouldn't be a restriction until you get way up in power (over 500 whp).

Im calling bs on that. I have injen intake and filter with a TTP coupler on mine and my car is not even sweating to make 584whp/534tq it will make more garanteed. now before you say red or black turbo it was going to be same setup on fp red as i had a red i never used. here are pics of the ttp coupler. Think it was like 38 shipped

It would be fine on a fp red setup at this point its all about what other mods octane used psi set to etc.
