Can I make my own E85 with pump gas + VP M1?
i can get M1 cheaper than pump gas, and i cant get E85 at a pump within 20 miles form me. Can i just mix pump gas and methanol? Has anyone converted to run straight methanol for fuel? not talking about meth injection, i mean running huge fuel pumps and injectors and running their car on alcohol....

do not mix gas and methanol in the same tank! they dont mix. plus ethanol is not made from methanol. its made from corn husks and whatnot. if you want to make your own you should start your own moon shine still.....

NO!! You can not.
A lot of difference in ethanol and methanol.
This thread is horrible, too much **** poor information already.
Ethanol in this country is made from corn mostly but NOT the husks. The "moonshine" still is a good suggestion but not easily done and if you do you'll need to call it an Ethanol Still, if you drink a drop of it you'll be subject to fines and jail time. The federal permit for making it is time consuming, not expensive and has a lot of restrictions. I have one I also have an ethanol still.

what about running straight methanol? i know i would need to change fuel system components, but are there significant gains to be had? like i said...i can get it much cheaper than premium gasoline. i know it burns slower than gasoline also...so i would expect an increase in average mileage....
ideas?

Methanol is by far superior to ethanol performance wise. But it would be very troublesome to go any more concentrated than M50. Consider M50 equivalent to E85 in many regards.
By the way, what kind of methanol can you get that cheap, anhydrous in a drum?

op,
mixing gas with methanol is not the method to making e85. e85 requires a process. i wont go into detail but sachharification is the key step and what better than that from starch in corn. The rest is distilling etc then distributed to pumps to mix and make e85.
Methanol can be used for cars. it has been for a looong time in the racing world. the problem is it's half the energy of gas and mileage is trash, your plastic and other fuel system parts can't handle it, don't touch it or it can travel through your skin and if you drink it you'll go blind. many argue that methanol is the best since there is 1 less hydrogen atom, hence a lighter mass (cheaper to produce)
there are methods to make e85 if you can process the corn. you'd need a large area of corn to attempt a substantial quantity of e85 say a few thousand miles worth.
