^ yeah I wrote a thesis on how to test T90 "transient response" data on Supraforums

It'll be what I use when my car makes vroom vroom noises again.

2.3 + Mivec.
All supporting mods - GSC S2's, 100mm intercooler, 3" exhaust, ported head.
Pump gas 98RON (10% ethanol).

Boost threshold is about 2800rpm.
It could be accel pump settings, but I think it's just the "weight" of the standard shaft.

The stock turbo never felt slow on response to me but when I watch in car video, it's very noticeable in how slow it recovers on boost while auto crossing.

The 7163 looks pretty awesome on paper, by the time I have money to work on the car again, it might even be available. Figure 4 months for the kids to be born then another 18-20 years for him to be out of the house. Yeah, they SHOULD be available by then.

From my butt I can tell you that the Stock Evo 9 turbo is a turd for transient response compared to my 7670... absolute TURD. Even on ethanol.... still a turd. The FP Green was by far the worst turbo for transient response relative to turbine wheel diameter. It was atrocious. The HKS turbo's transient response was pretty good... but then again it makes a 120+ less horsepower than the EFR does.

In other news... I stumbled across a 7064 at work today. Just sitting on a shelf. I don't know what will become of it...but it would be splendid to do a comparison against a GTX small frame turbocharger on the engine dyno.
I appreciate everything you have posted on the EFR's.

Coming from a 9 turbo with a Ti-Al turbine, I do have lightning quick transient response and it is something I really do not want to give up with a larger turbo. Yes I want to have my cake and eat it too. After reading this thread I'm leaning towards a 7064 since they are now in stock according to the Full-Race site, hopefully by the time I am ready to purchase there will actually be some real results on the 7064 and 7163 so I can make up my mind.

That comparison between the EFR & GTX you speak of would be pretty cool

Google JEFF PERRIN EFR7163 test

he's got a blog where he tests it against the 7064 you speak of bwahaha. it's awesome.

Who wants a 7670 or smaller manifold and dumptube top mount setup? I want to do a 8374 setup.

Talking about the 8374

Do you think that are there any considerable difference between the .92 and the 1.05 a/r?

What is the availability and lead time for these turbos now a days? I'm specifically interested in a 8374 0.92 IWG T4 or 9180 1.15 a/r T4.
